Thomas Menke is president of Menke Consulting, headquartered in Greenville, Ohio, which is an agronomic, environmental, and farm management consulting firm specializing in agricultural and water quality management systems since 1977.

Menke has made a career of being involved at the local, state, and national levels on issues centering on agriculture’s relationship to the environment. He provides a well-rounded perspective due to his studies and experiences with the interrelationships between soil fertility, crop production, water quality, animal husbandry, farm management, and social issues impacting modern agriculture.

Reinford Farms is located in the rolling hills of central PA. Dairy farming has been our livelihood for several generations.
In 2008, we stumbled upon the possibility of recycling food waste on our dairy farm. We were looking to be more sustainable in our business practices and use the resources available to us... like using all our cow manure to make energy. So when the question, “Can you recycle food waste?” was asked, we said, “Yes, we will figure it out.” We provide a sustainable solution to the massive food waste problem in this country.

The Ohio By-Product Synergy (BPS) Network was launched in April 2010, sponsored by the U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Development (USBCSD), the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission. This state-wide network helps businesses convert waste into profits, creating both environmental and economic benefits.

Membership in the Ohio BPS Network is open to any company or organization that wishes to explore new opportunities to (a) transform waste materials into byproducts, or (b) secure recycled material streams in place of virgin feedstocks.
